Mercadona has opened 12 research and innovation centers close to its stores and engages customers in order to improve products and develop new solutions.
- Since the launch in 2011 of these centers, around 9,000 customers per year shared their opinions on products’ improvement. Mercadona managed to develop 400 SKUs yearly in cooperation with its customers.
- The centers provide several workshops and assistance to customers related to meals preparation, house and clothes cleaning, hygiene and personal care products.
- The innovation model consists in several steps that place the customers at the core of improvement decisions: capture phase, solution definition phase, information transfer to Purchasing Department and model implementation.
- Mercadona employed 1,000 resources dedicated to products’ innovation process.
