To enhance its online shopping experience, Sainsbury's is planning to close its general merchandise website (non-food website) and merge it with its online grocery website; the transition is expected to be completed by November 2014.

  • Following the switch Sainsbury's online GM assortment will increase to 7000 SKUs.
  • The retailer will launch a separate e-commerce site for its apparel brand, Tu, and will not be merged with its online grocery website.
  • Merchandise such us furniture and TVs will be removed completely from its e-commerce model but, will be sold from certain selected stores.
  • Merchandise such as CDs and DVDs will be available on the grocery website site and the retailer will also run its site for digital downloads and streaming.
